Biography:
Dr. Jeffrey S. Gilbert, a Knoxville, Tennessee native, embarked on his journey in medicine after earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee. His passion for medicine led him to the UT College of Medicine in Memphis, where he obtained his medical doctorate degree.
Following his graduation, Dr. Gilbert pursued an internal medicine residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, laying the foundation for his specialization in gastroenterology. He further honed his expertise during his fellowship at the University of Kentucky, where he distinguished himself as the chief gastroenterology fellow for the 2007-08 academic year.
Dr. Gilbert has developed advanced procedural skills, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), spyglass cholangioscopy, capsule endoscopy, and enteroscopy. His clinical interests are broad and include the management of gallbladder and bile duct disorders, cirrhosis and liver disorders, and colon cancer prevention, areas where his contributions have been both significant and impactful.
As a board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Gilbert is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and American Gastroenterological Association. These memberships reflect his commitment to staying at the forefront of his field and contributing to the advancement of gastroenterology.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Gilbert is dedicated to his family and community. He and his wife, Amy, are the proud parents of three children: Anna Grace, Lucy, and James. Dr. Gilbert also contributes his time and expertise to his community, serving as a reserve elder in the Presbyterian church, where he is involved in various initiatives.
Dr. Gilbert’s combination of advanced clinical skills, dedication to patient care, and involvement in his community make him a respected figure in the field of gastroenterology and a valued member of his medical and local communities.
